DIESEL MANUAL 4X4

There are Hiluxes. And then there are time-capsule Hiluxes. This is the latter.

A 1999 2.4 diesel manual 4x4 that represents something we simply do not see anymore: an unmolested, straight, honest example of one of the most indestructible vehicles ever built - preserved, not restored into oblivion.

Four careful owners from new. A huge history file. Invoices stacking back through the years.
And most recently, a £2,000 invoice including new rear leaf springs and fittings - done properly, not cheaply.

While average trucks - the tired, over-worked, patched-up examples - are now comfortably changing hands at £15,000+, exceptional ones have begun to move into collector territory. Cheffins Auction House sold a comparable two-door Hilux for £24,120 in October 2024.

But markets aside, condition is everything.

The paintwork is original. White, straight, and astonishingly solid.
Look at the sills. Completely intact. No filler, no crust, no unpleasant surprises hiding underneath. The decals remain, gently worn through in places from years of polishing - the kind of honest ageing you cannot replicate.

The load bay tells the story best.
Original heavy-duty Toyota plastic liner - uncracked, unchipped. Not a builder’s hack. Not a farm mule. The original tonneau cover remains taut on its factory struts, sitting exactly as it should.

Inside, it is pure late-90s utility perfection.
Original plastic flooring. Original rubber mats. The headlining is immaculate. It still smells right. The original Toyota radio accompanies the vehicle (a rarity), though a sympathetic period-style DAB unit is currently fitted for modern usability.

The details have been treated with respect, not reinvention.
• Original wheels sandblasted and powder-coated in factory colour
• Five brand-new tyres
• Tow bar professionally rewired
• Front bumper freshly prepared and repainted
• Cam belt completed
• Engine bay clean, correct and unspoiled

The entire truck has been machine-polished. In a few places, the paint has gently worn thin, revealing hints of metal beneath - and it looks sensational. Honest. Mechanical. Exactly as a cherished, 26-year-old Hilux should.

On the road, it behaves precisely as you would hope.
Smooth gear change. Strong 2.4 diesel pull. Cruises effortlessly. 100% mechanically sound.

This is not a workhorse on its last legs.
This is a preserved example of a model that built Toyota’s global reputation for durability.

You could drive it across Europe tomorrow.
Or tuck it away in a collection and watch the market continue its quiet climb.

A vehicle for a collector.
Or a connoisseur who understands the difference between “restored” and “original.”
